Car insurance group ratings

Every UK car is given a Car Insurance Group Rating, and this indicates the car's risk. The Groups range from 1-20. Group 1 is the lowest risk – and usually relates to small and low powered vehicles – through to Group 20 the highest, which relates to high performance cars. The lower the group, the lower the insurance cost. Most family cars are in groups 6 to 12.
